Introduction

Objective

The overall aims of the programme are to:

  • Provide an industrially/commercially relevant education for students from a variety of subject backgrounds, employment and life experience utilising appropriate modes of study;
  • Enable students to fully explore the complex body of knowledge related to the Computer Science discipline: some of it at the current boundaries of research and development;
  • Enable students to acquire a range of practical, professional and transferable skills to equip them to contribute to their chosen profession or pursue further study. Successful students will merit relevant exemption from British Computer Society (BCS) professional examinations and possible partial Chartered Engineering (C.Eng.) status.

Accreditation

This delivery of Bachelor of Science (Hons) Information Technology in the UK is accredited by the British Computer Society, the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as Chartered IT Professional which is internationally recognised.

Academic Requirements

Year 1 Entry (Level 4):

  • 3 GCE 'A' Levels including Biology and Chemistry (adding up to at least 112 UCAS tariff points), with minimum Grade B for Biology or Chemistry, or equivalent OR
  • International Foundation Diploma in Biomedical Sciences awarded by MDIS OR
  • Relevant qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be suitable as pathway programmes for entry onto the Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education*

Year 2 Entry (Level 5):

Relevant diploma level qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education*

Year 3 Entry (Level 6)^:

  • Relevant polytechnic diplomas in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 AND Level 5 / Year 2 of the University course) with a pass grade*OR
  • Relevant overseas polytechnic diplomas in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 AND Level 5 / Year 2 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education * OR
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines OR
  • Relevant PEI qualification in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 AND Level 5 / Year 2 of the University course) with entry requirement of 12 years of formal education *

Language Requirement

  • Possess a minimum C6 grade in English at GCE 'O' Level OR
