Our client is a renowned financial institution. For this 6 to 9 mth contract role, you report to a director of the Sustainability (Policy).

In this team, you lead initiatives around the themes of sustainability and stewardship. You are in a team that focuses on driving game changing developments and long-term strategic projects with a sustainability and commercial focus.

Within this Sustainability team, you are in the Policy group that focuses on understanding the broader Sustainability policy context as well its implications for investing.

The team engages on initiatives in the area of Sustainable Finance domestically and internationally and works to align the firm’s ways of working with international best practice.

As the firm’s center of expertise on responsible investing, the team develops, evolves and drives the firm’s ESG (environmental, social and governance factors) frameworks and works closely with the investment, portfolio management and risk teams to institutionalize best practices.

With the longer term objective to support internal and external reporting, the team establishes the frameworks to measure and track the ESG related performance of our portfolio as well as relevant positive impact.

Over the past months, the firm has reviewed and updated its approach to ESG integration. As the firm moves to implementation, you will play a critical role in driving the pilot phase of our refreshed ESG approach pre- and post-investment, incorporating any learnings in the practical guidelines and tools and preparing for full launch at the institutional level.

The role is a 6-9 months contract role (maternity cover) during the period July 2018 – March 2019. Depending on the future resource requirements in the team, there may be a possibility for extension.

The Sustainability team is a young and dynamic team with growing and evolving areas of focus. The role will require flexibility and adaptability to the different needs of the team.

Providing effective and timely support to certain projects may occasionally require support beyond the normal office hours.

Main Responsibilities

Roll-out of ESG approach
  • Create organisational buy-in: Support the roll-out of the firm’s ESG policy and approach by preparing for Senior Management conversations and interactions with the investment teams 
  • Provide training and knowledge: Design and implement the ESG Knowledge Hub and support the trainings of the investment teams on the ESG approach and the requirements 
  • Project Management: Oversee and track the progress of the roll-out plan during pilot phase (July – December), track and collate learnings and prepare for organisation-wide roll-out in January. 

ESG transaction support and reporting
  • Undertake research, generate insights from ESG data platforms and provide relevant insights and advice to investment teams in support of the pre-investment due diligence 
  • Establish and drive a monitoring mechanism for post-investment tracking at the portfolio level. 
  • Carry out topical research on relevant ESG issues and prepare reports and presentation materials to engage industry and market teams 

ESG data engine
  • Support conceptualisation of a data-driven ESG insights platform, particularly in support of post-investment portfolio monitoring and reporting. 

Key requirements:
  • Degree qualified with min 7 to 12 years of related sustainability experience 
  • Has a good understanding of investments and some understanding of ESG (environmental, social and governance) concepts 
  • Available to start work around July and able to commit to a 6 to 9 month contract
