Job Description

  • Has exposure to dry bulk market. Exposure to iron ore and coal will be very useful 


Our client is a renowned commodity trading/ marketing MNC based in town.

For this role, you are part of the Group's exclusive 'in-house' ocean freight service provider, offering a comprehensive range of shipping services to the firm’s business units around the world.

In this role, you will negotiate and execute the Marketing BU’s spot and short term chartering of bulk freight for all commodity groups, typically Iron Ore, Coal and Copper, including opportunistic third party trade.


TYPICAL TASKS

Chartering - Vessel Booking and Logistics
  • Conduct short term and spot chartering for Marketing BU’s dry bulk freight activities in accordance with Group policy and procedures. 
  • Responsible for daily chartering of Drybulk vessels on period and TCT basis; 
  • Negotiate and achieve freight targets with outside counterparties. 
  • Closely monitor freight markets at all times of day and collect current fixture information; 
  • Utilise technical freight knowledge to provide voyage calculations and assessments of the dry bulk freight market as requested; 
  • Evaluating and procuring third party freight fixtures in many different commodities which compliment Anglo period vessels and commodity trade; 
  • Oversee vessel P&L performance and provide direction to Operations personnel; 
  • Responsible for reviewing all Charter Party contracts pre- and post-fixture 
  • Conduct all freight differential calculations (including discharge port and bunker adjustments) 
  • Review, negotiate and conclude demurrage and brokerage settlements for the Commodity business unit’s dry bulk freight activities 
  • Align chartering activities with monthly scheduling requirements. 


Group Governance and Risk Management
  • Maintain all dry bulk cargo and vessel fixtures within the Marketing BU’s shipping system in a timely and compliant manner. Including making improvements to process as and when required. 


Customer Service
  • Liaise and interface with the commodity teams to develop dry bulk freight plans and forecast, including the utilisation of their dry bulk knowledge to increase delivered sales. 


Requirements
  • Preferred - Degree educated with a qualification in a commercial discipline 
  • Has min 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in ship chartering gained with larger chartering companies, or ship brokers or ship owners or shipping companies. 
  • Commercially savvy with sales acumen to manage the set P&L target and commercial activities. 
  • Has exposure to dry bulk market. Exposure to iron ore and coal will be very useful 
  • Open minded and can implement improvement to current processes 
  • Strong ability to prioritise deliverables under pressure. 
  • Travel required from time to time 
  • Experience with Veslink and Chinsay software 
  • A strong culture of business integrity and compliance in all business activity. 
  • Strong understanding of the bulk freight market and how it interacts with relevant commodity markets. 
  • An understanding of the economic, commercial, technical and political issues affecting the shipping market. 
  • Strong understanding and capability to conduct detailed freight calculations for various products and vessel types 
  • Expertise in global commodity markets and their drivers with particular relevance back to ocean freight markets. 
  • Knowledge of value chain. 
  • Experience/knowledge of the freight market, technical requirements and operational knowledge 
  • Sound knowledge of financial management. 
  • Sounds knowledge of contract management. 
  • Deep understanding of marketing fundamentals (ie. pricing, delivery strategy, value chain dynamics, voyage calculations).
