Job Description
Our client is a leader and manufacturer of microscopy instruments for medical use. The Head of EHS & Facility APAC plans, directs, and implements environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and identify and resolve EHS program gaps and deficiencies and has regional responsibility for developing EHS management strategies and directing EHS resources across company APAC Selling units and Factories. 

  • Plans, develops and implements an EHS and facility management strategy, and EHS / facility programs, policies and procedures in APAC that ensures full compliance with applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements. Ensures that standard work exists for the management and preparation and submission of EHS reports in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements. 
  • Assists regional leadership in assessing EHS/ facility -related business risks, and establishing annual EHS targets for the manufacturing, field service and research & development and sales office locations. Analyzes performance, sets strategies, and leads development and implementation of action plans for year over year improvement. 
  • Provides oversight for the various worker’s compensation programs. 
  • Leads a regional, facility EHS review process to help management detect accident/health hazards and determine corrective or preventative measures, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented and are producing the desired results. 
  • Provides leadership in the investigation of serious accidents and injuries and ensures that local resources fully cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations. 
  • Compiles and submits regional KPIs & metrics on EHS and facility events and provides updates on the progress towards EHS and facility targets, on site EHS and facility activities, and any agency/regulatory inspections/violations. 
  • Assesses and cost-effectively manages EHS/ facility-related risks with the long-term objective to eliminate hazards and further reduce risk across our global operations. 
  • Uses company methods to embed EHS best practices into daily management. 
  • Ensures that the EHS/ facility Team regionally remains up-to-date and conversant with relevant laws, regulations and other statutory requirements that impact EHS across their local areas of responsibility. 
  • Coordinates with regulatory agencies, customers and industry groups to ensure that company remains at the forefront of EHS/facility trends within the industry. 
  • Manages all external EHS audits and programs of company regionally (e.g. FM Global, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), develop action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively. 
  • Serves as the regional contact for relevant government agencies. 
  • Provides regional leadership on EHS/ facility issues, assist regional top management in understanding business impacts of EHS/ facility issues thereby enabling prudent allocation of resources and decision-making and assist them in Identifying and implements corrective measures to improve each site’s EHS performance against goals. 
  • Leads in Global EHS projects and coordinate project plans and execution through regional EHS. 
  • Acts as mentor to associates with EHS/ facility responsibilities at company facilities, evaluates performance and provides input to performance appraisals and skills development plans for these associates. 
  • Comply and adhere to the regulatory and company Quality and EHS requirement. 

Facility Management
  • Provides leadership and management guidance to site Facility management team. 
  • Ensure facility and estate management is able to support daily business and future growth. 
  • Ensure facility conformance with all applicable local and corporate environment, health, safety laws, regulations, policies and guidelines. 
  • Ensure Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Business Impact Analysis (BIA) are well establish at APAC sites and align with Global BCP and BIA plan. 
  • Monitor and review operational cost. Responsible for facility financial improvement. 
  • Serves as expert regarding building, energy, construction, HAVC systems and programs. 
  • Advises, coaches and supports facilities teams in identifying, scoping and implementing energy savings and sustainability improvements. 

  • The ideal candidate will have ideal a minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing EHS and facility, real estate or similar programs. 
  • The successful candidate will have a proven track record of driving the EHS agenda in a multi-site, global manufacturing organization, and must possess the ability to engage the workforce at all levels in the journey to build a strong EHS culture and a collaborative team-oriented approach to EHS management across the business. 
  • Candidates must have broad EHS experience, including working-level subject matter expertise, project/process leadership and department or functional area management. 
  • Candidates should be degree qualified, ideally in science or engineering, but will require strong operational and commercial experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels within the organization. 
  • EHS-related licenses, certifications and/or membership in EHS professional associations are desired. Experience with Mergers and Acquisitions (due diligence and integration) and risk and liability management. Must be able to view issues in a systematic and logical way. 
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills and the ability to influence at all levels within the responsible areas. 
  • Personable, well-organized and have an appreciation of the need for meticulous detail and accuracy. 
  • An ability to work under own initiative is important as is the ability to prioritize multiple workloads and tasks whilst still meeting timelines. 
  • Tenacious and able to work in a high intensity ever changing working environment. 
  • Results oriented; thrives in a culture that values individual initiative, yet expects teamwork and collaboration; comfortable with an organization that lacks strictly-defined functional department boundaries, detailed procedures, and a comprehensive information technology infrastructure. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications and other task related software. 
  • Fluent English – spoken and written.
