Job Description
  • Min 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in Market Analysis covering commodities 
  • Deep understanding of marketing fundamentals (ie. pricing, delivery strategy, value chain dynamics, net back calculations). 
  • Strong in presentation and communication skills 

Our client is a renowned commodity MNC.

For this role, you will manage the provision of world class market intelligence support services covering the Metallurgical Coal market that adds value to the sales team for pricing and market decision making.

You will report to the Head of Sales, Metallurgical Coal and work closely with the sales team, commercial teams and other Market Intelligence teams.

Commercial value generation 
  • Manage the market intelligence process that includes gathering, collating, filtering, analysing and interpreting market data and information specific to the commodity and associated markets. 
  • Identify and qualify market arbitrage and value optimisation opportunities required for robust marketing strategy formulation, business/ tactical planning and execution. 
  • Manage the provision of specialized market analytics and market studies that draw on other internal resources and external consultants. 
  • Facilitate the exchange of price, customer and competitor intelligence with key stakeholders. 
  • Design, build and maintain customer and supplier databases and market price models that capture the collective knowledge gathered from the Sales and Marketing team, internal and external sources. 

Stakeholder management
  • Deliver routine market reporting services designed to meet key stakeholder requirements. 
  • Deliver market presentations to executive and senior management levels within the organisation, anticipating and highlighting important changes in market dynamics to inform commercial decisions. 
  • Act as the key interface with external index providers and market research providers to uncover pricing intelligence used to advise the Commodity Marketing Team and Risk and Performance management teams around market reference pricing parameters, pricing strategies for new products, term contract negotiations, arbitrage identification and value initiatives. 

  • Advise Production and Marketing BU EXCOs and Group Finance on the market outlook and price forecasts for commodity prices, including the main market reference prices and product pricing differentials relevant to the firm’s product portfolio. 

Specialist Support
  • Support the business in the delivery of market briefings both internally and externally as required. 

  • Initiative working relationships beyond immediate team, fostering cross-commodity collaboration and synergies for the Marketing BU. 
  • Lead by example to embed the Marketing behaviours as the way the Marketing Business Unit works together. 


  • Degree qualified with min 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in Market Analysis covering commodities. 
  • Exposure to metallurgical coal is not a must (but nice to have). 
  • Exposure to the commodity industry is a must 
  • An understanding of the economic, commercial and political issues affecting the coal market. 
  • Expertise in global commodity markets and their drivers. 
  • Knowledge of metallurgical coal value chain. 
  • Experience/knowledge of the coal market, technical coal specifications and operational knowledge 
  • Sound knowledge of financial management. 
  • Deep understanding of marketing fundamentals (ie. pricing, delivery strategy, value chain dynamics, net back calculations). 
  • Has strong commercial Reasoning and Application - Understands every element of the marketing value chain, financial concepts and appropriate risk management, and applies this knowledge to achieve business success and growth. (Level Advance). 
  • Has strong Commodity Knowledge - Understands the production process, technical characteristics, market dynamics, commodity applications, our customers, their requirements and how we deliver value. 
  • Has excellent Market Analysis and Knowledge - Leverages market information to develop strategies and opportunities that create value for the business. 
  • Has strong presentation and communication skills (as this role will require presentations to senior mgt including the CEO) 
  • Thrive well in a global, dynamic and fluid work environment
