VMware TKG (Tanzu Kubernetes Grid) team is seeking a software engineer to help advance our mission of making TKG the best platform to operationalize Kubernetes.
You have the opportunity not only to contribute to a product that has direct impact to enterprise customers, but also work closely with the open source community on project Velero.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
The role, as a softwaredeveloper, will be responsible towork withthe team to solve challenging problems on protecting Kubernetes clusters and persistent volumes such as backup, restore, migration. In the meantime, you are also responsible for being involved infeaturedesign, implementation, testing, issue fixing and participating community activities.
We expect you:
  • BS or above in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 5+years of software industry working experience and hands-on development.
  • Hands-on experience on cloud native technologies such as container, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experienced in one of modern programming languages such as Go, C++, Java. Go is preferred.
  • Experienced in the data protection/storage industry. Backup/Restore/Replication/High Availability is a plus.
  • Familiar with Agile and Test-Driven development.
  • Familiar with the Open Source community, contribution to Open Source projects is a plus.
  • Excellent English and communication skills and capability of cooperating with remote peers.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Delivery: You are expected towork withthe team to deliver features with high quality in a 4 months release cadency. You are passionate about understanding customer needs and give priority in delivering the highest quality code.
Collaboration: You will be collaborating with team members, technical leads, and product management to identify, resolve problems. You participate in the open source community and you thrive in technically leading initiatives.
Process: You believe in agile software development methodologies, you take ownership of your code and believe in test driven development.
Culture: You are open, self-driven, a team player and also a willing learner.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
As aseniordeveloper, you will
  • Provide technical leadershipin one or more product/feature areas.
  • Design and implement new features,issue fixing, testing,solve the challenging problems.
  • Collaboratewithin and outside the team on technical challenges.
  • Work closely with theteam/Product Manager toidentify requirements,discussing design.
  • Work closely with the open source community to resolve issues, reviewing code.
  • Work with the global support and service team to support field POC and customer issues.
