Job Description

The Technical Writer is responsible for producing product documentation for industrial automation solutions, which are used in mission-critical environments such as oil refineries, power plants, and chemical facilities. The accepted candidate will be based in Singapore as part of an established team of technical communication professionals, and he/she will work with stakeholders located in various geographical locations. He/she will be provided with advanced authoring tools, documentation methodologies, and extensive training.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate and collaborate with subject matter experts to understand the requirements. 
  • Structure complex information into an organized and logical format. 
  • Convey complicated ideas into simple instructions for international users. 
  • Apply topic-based authoring and content architecture techniques to produce easy–to-use manuals. 
  • Manage and use budgeted time and resources to produce expected results without delays. 


Must have:
  • At least 3 years for degree holder (for all applicants). 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in writing technical documents or manuals for software or related products. For senior position, at least 6 years’ experience. 
  • Experience in authoring and publishing content for external customers. 
  • Experience in working with a software engineering team 
  • Experience in using more than one of the following tools: 
          o Adobe Acrobat

          o Adobe InDesign

          o Adobe PageMaker

          o Adobe FrameMaker

          o Other XML authoring tools

          o Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, Project, Visio)
  • Experience in using a content management system. 
  • Ability to understand highly technical contents 
Must have for senior position:
  • Experience in editing 
  • Experience in project planning, estimation, risk analysis 
  • Experience in working with a team of writers 
Nice to have:
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Japanese (JLPT N3 and above). 
  • Understanding of Japanese culture 
  • Knowledge of UML. Specifically, able to read and understand use case diagrams and use case descriptions. 
  • Familiarity with RUP or the full software development lifecycle. 
  • Good knowledge in Industrial Automation, Control and Instrumentation. 
  • Project/System Engineering/Commissioning Experience in Process Automation Industries. 
  • Working knowledge of DCS/PLC/SCADA applications (Yokogawa, Honeywell, Siemens, Emerson, ABB etc.) and/or field instruments. 
  • Ability to program scripts, perform data analysis using spreadsheets, and conduct effective presentations 
Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelor / Honours Degree in Computer Engineering, Computing (Software Engineering), Computer Science or equivalent qualifications. Candidates with degrees in English or Technical Communications and relevant technical writing work experience will be considered. 
  • Technical translators (Japanese-English) with related qualifications or work experience, and a strong interest in technical writing are welcome to apply.
