The National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore invites suitable candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Manager (Research Engagement and Publications) in the Office of Education Research (OER). The OER oversees the management of education research across the Institute and seeks to enhance the Institute's strategic aims of learning, teaching and research as well as to enhance its standing as a leading international research institution. This is a contract position till 31 Mar 2023, and may be renewed depending on the individual's performance and the needs of the organisation.
We're looking for a dynamic and experienced individual with lots of ideas for and a good track record in editorial, publishing, publicity and design work. The applicant will be involved in ensuring the effective communication, dissemination and engagement of research findings to various stakeholders. This may include writing and editing articles for various research publications, initiating and managing existing and/or new publications, developing and implementing publicity plans, initiating and recommending broad strategic plans for publications, as well as monitoring the effectiveness and impact of publishing efforts. The applicant will also be involved in managing the contents of the department's website, ensuring that they are consistently relevant and up-to-date. When necessary, the applicant may also be involved in engagement activities that include events, symposia, workshops and conferences.
The applicant will report to the Unit Head, Research Engagement and Publications Unit at the OER.
ResponsibilitiesPublications & Dissemination- Communicate NIE's research findings to stakeholders through a range of research publications, both print and online, including journals, books, e-publications, research reports, opinion pieces, policy briefs and presentations.
- Provide editorial support for these research publications, including writing, copy editing, designing and production work, website management, and journal administration of NIE's academic journal(s).
- Assist in providing strategic directions to improve NIE's research publications and enhance their impact.
- Manage the dissemination of NIE's research publications on various platforms (website, EDMs, physical mailing, etc.)
- Any other tasks as assigned by Reporting Officer.
Publicity & Marketing- Support the publicity and marketing of NIE's research publications.
- Provide publicity support at the departmental level, including assisting at OER/NIE events and professorial visits.
- Manage the contents of the OER's website to ensure that information are constantly updated in a timely manner.
- Actively create awareness of NIE's research activities and establish relationships with relevant local stakeholders, including academic staff, policy makers and schools, and to the international education research community.
- Any other tasks as assigned by Reporting Officer.
Events- Provide ad-hoc support in departmental and institutional events as and when required by the team (webinars, seminars, conferences, talks, exhibitions, etc.)
Qualification & Skills- A University degree in a relevant discipline, preferably in Communications, Social Science, Education or equivalent.
- At least 2 - 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in conducting interviews for publications and videos.
- Experience in managing website and content uploads.
- Experience in both online and offline publicity and marketing, including the management of social media platforms.
- Excellent command of the English language, with experience in writing and editing for a variety of audiences (academic and non-academic).
- Good interpersonal and communications skills.
- Detail-oriented and takes pride in work.
- Motivated self-starter who is comfortable working with a team, as well as independently, under tight deadlines.
- Proficient in basic photography, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
- Advantage if candidate is familiar with the Singapore education and its development.
