Position Description
The chemist will be primarily responsible for performing liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) data analysis and testing support in an analytical chemistry lab. The position has responsibility for project-based LC/MS data processing, sample preparation, operation of LC/MS instrumentation, accurate compound identification, and quantification of unknowns and target compounds. The role functions as part of an analytical chemistry team that works under ISO 13485 and ISO 17025 Quality Management Systems.
Position Responsibilities
  • Partner with clients to understand and define testing needs
  • Partner with the project teams to perform LC/MS data processing and chemical characterization
  • Perform sample preparation, testing, data analysis, and reporting
  • Create reports that clearly organize the results and demonstrate that test plan requirements were satisfied
  • Document testing and data analysis results in a lab notebook
  • Operate and maintain LC/MS instrumentation
  • Other responsibilities may include supporting other chemical characterization testing including non-volatile residue, HPLC/UV, GC, and/or GC/MS sample prep, analysis and quantification/identification

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Chemistry, Biology, Material Science, or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience performing MS analytical testing
  • Extensive knowledge and experience performing LC/MS separations and identification of unknowns and target compounds in the areas of extractables/leachables, materials, and polymer characterization
  • Experience performing chemical identification of unknowns
  • Experience documenting testing in laboratory notebooks to cGMP standards
  • Experience and understanding of cGMP, ISO17025, ISO10993, FDA and ICH requirements
  • Familiarity with XCaliber, MassHunter, and ChemStation
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on daily tasks
  • Ability to work and be effective with minimal supervision
  • Use of Microsoft Word & Excel

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience

Nice to Have
Successful candidate will have experience with LC/MS instrumentation, and with GC/MS instrumentation, with experience in LC/MS data analysis and unknown identification and quantification. The candidate will have experience partnering with clients, defining study plans, and supporting problem solving initiatives. Additionally, candidates will have experience in a dynamic team environment, strong interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to understand MS concepts related to laboratory data interpretation. Knowledge of medical devices is preferred. The candidate will have excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills that are results oriented. The candidate will also have experience with documenting experiments in a highly regulated environment and knowledge of technical concepts and principals underlying Organic and Inorganic analytical chemistry techniques.
