Broad Function
1. Support the Assistant Manager/Manager in the operations of Clinical Coding for WHC to ensure provision of accurate and timely performance of coding, in compliance to MOH’s guidelines or requirements
2.Perform coding analysis, audits, review and liase with doctors and other healthcare professionals on coding matters.
3.Provide reports and update to relevant stakeholders when required
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Assistant Manager/Manager in the development and improvement of workflows and processes in the Clinical Coding Unit
  • Support and establish training materials, and provide training to clinical coders in the areas of clinical coding in accordance to Ministry of Health guidelines
  • Perform abstraction of complete and accurate, diagnoses and procedures after a thorough review of entire inpatient records and assign appropriate ICD-10- AM Codes
  • Communicating effectively with health care professionals to clarify any incomplete or ambiguous documentation
  • Optimising coding through output and quality coding
  • Perform periodic verification of bill with MOH where required
  • Perform regular auditing for staff/team to ensure quality of coding standards is upheld where required
  • Participating in continuing education and training of new coders
  • Handle clinical coding enquiries and respond to or follow up when required
  • Assist the Asst Manager/Manager with OJT programs for new staff by identifying training needs, plan and organise programs and schedules, continuously evaluate and monitor staff progress; initiate reviews/feedback session
  • Perform relevant administrative functions in the department
  • Support in the procurement process for opening of WHC and department
  • Where directed by Reporting Officer, and/or Director, to support in other WHC-related projects and tasks.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate Diploma, Professional Degree in Medical/Nursing/Health Sciences or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology/procedures
Professional Experience
  • Relevant ICD coding experience is preferred
  • Ability to plan, organize, supervise and execute
  • Meticulous and thorough in reading through clinical documentation
  • Ability to work independently and also in a team
  • A target-oriented team player with initiative and positive work attitude
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications
  • Auditing skills would be an added advantage
