Hoolah's Legal Department is looking for a talented, energetic, and experienced lawyer to fill the position of Legal Counsel.
This position is based in Singapore and will support Hoolah's Buy-Now-Pay-Later (BNPL) business in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and the Asia Pacific.
This opportunity will require a talent capable of tackling legal hurdles in the new and exciting fintech space of micro-financing and electronic payments, while also navigating the intricacies of payments services licensing across various jurisdictions. Our legal counsel will also have the opportunity to work with the ShopBack legal team in its 10 jurisdictions and to collaborate with various stakeholders across both businesses so as to improve and integrate the customer experience as the Group expands its products and services.

    • Providing day-to-day legal support to business teams.
    • Helping business teams launch new services, features, and expanding the product range.
    • Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with key brands, including large multi-national companies and start-ups.
    • Improve and advance existing commercial relationships.
    • Developing strategies for handling legal issues in creative, efficient, and business-centric ways.
    • Advising the business on regulatory issues and responding to regulators and external contacts.

    • We would expect the candidate to be inquisitive, enthusiastic about customers and technology, enjoy legal work, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating sound judgment in uncharted situations.

    • Law degree from a reputable university or college.
    • Qualified to practice law in Singapore, UK, Australia, or other commonwealth jurisdictions.
    • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualified legal experience gathered in private practice. Additional in-house experience, if any, would be a plus and candidates with even more experience are encouraged to play.
    • Experience in banking, finance or the fintech space.
    • High proficiency with drafting of complex legal documents.
    • Able to lead contract negotiations with large multi-national companies.
    • Experience with payments services regulations in Singapore and the region.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Capable of leading complex and time sensitive projects while coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
    • Able to provide practical business judgment, think outside the box and assess practical risk.
    • Strong sense of autonomy, initiative and decisiveness.
