Core to Amazon's DNA is its methodology around executing experiments and prototypes to find the quickest way to prove new ideas, technologies, and business models in a real-world environment. This experimentation fuels Amazon's innovation. The role of the Prototyping Engineer will apply these methods to assemble and build prototypes with leading Customers around the world. You'll work closely with AWS Field Teams including Chief Technologists, Solution Architects, Technical Account Managers, and AWS Service Developers to partner with customers to solve hard problems. Amazon is seeking a senior technical professional to join the AWS Solutions Architecture team to support our rapidly growing and dynamic business.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Work with AWS sales, business development, solutions architects, customers, and partners to identify strategic use cases and build working prototypes and demos
- Extract best-practice knowledge, reference architectures, and patterns from engagements to promote re-use with the worldwide AWS SA community
- Architect, develop, and maintain tools to increase our scale and efficiency
- Share insights and lessons learned with AWS Service teams to contribute to the continual improvement of AWS platform and services based on Customer need
- Prepare architecture and design briefs that outline key features and decision points and provide prescriptive guidance to Customers
- Develop and present detailed technical demonstrations to Senior Business and Technical leaders
- Position requires travel -- generally, between 0 - 25%

Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of software development and/or solutions architecture (implementation/consulting) experience
- Track record of implementing and operating cloud solutions in a variety of business environments such as large enterprises and start-ups
- Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, C#, Python
- Technical depth in areas of emerging technology such as IoT, AI/ML, Serverless compute, Data Analytics, XR
Preferred Qualifications
- History of successful technical sales consulting and architecture engagements (i.e. working prototype solutions, proof-of-concept, demos)
- Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations and virtual teams.
- Ability to think understand complex business requirements and render them as prototype systems with quick turnaround time
- Working knowledge of modern software development practices and technologies such as Agile methodologies and DevOps.
- AWS Certification as an AWS Solutions Architect, Developer, or SysOps Associate/Professional
