Your Role and Responsibilities Responsible for SAP incoming tickets and solve client requests. The scope of this job specialty includes preparation for new or updated SAP services, management of the change process, management of performance of SAP systems and services. Individuals in this specialty apply their SAP technical skills to support the operation and maintenance of SAP products and solutions and typically have responsibility for sizing, troubleshooting, and critical client situations.

Skill Sets:
  • Apply Knowledge of Asset Management - Using appropriate tools and methodologies follow the business practices that identify the hardware, software assets of IT Infrastructure and manage the life-cycle of the assets throughout the organization. This includes following the policies, standards, processes, systems and measurements the enable the organization to manage the assets with respect to risk, cost, control, compliance and business performance objectives.
  • Apply Knowledge of Availability Management - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Availability Management
  • Apply Knowledge of Capacity Management - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Capacity Management .
  • Apply Knowledge of Change Management - Using appropriate techniques and methodologies transition individuals, teams, organizations, systems, processes from current state to the desired future state using change control processes. A change control process is a formal process to ensure that the changes are introduced in a controlled and coordinated fashion, reducing the possibility of unnecessary changes or introducing faults into a system or undoing changes made by others. The goal of a change management process is to have minimal disruption of services, reduction of back-out activities and optimal use of resources involved in making the change(s). ITIL practices are often used to guide change management activities and planning.
  • Apply Knowledge of Configuration Management - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Configuration Management.
  • Apply Knowledge of Incident Management - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Incident Management.
  • Apply Knowledge of Problem Management - Using appropriate tools, techniques and methodologies manage the lifecycle of problems. The primary objective is to prevent problems from happening and to eliminate recurring incidents and solving problems as efficiently as possible. Problem management includes diagnosing root cases and ensuring that the resolution is implemented through appropriate control procedures, including change management. Problem management also includes maintaining information about the problems, workarounds and resolutions. Processes involved include Problem detection, Problem logging, Problem prioritization, Problem investigation and diagnosis and the maintenance of Known Error Records. Conducting Major Problem Reviews and incorporating the knowledge learned into a service review is also required.
  • Apply Knowledge of Release Management - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Release Management.
  • Apply Knowledge of Security Management - Using appropriate tools and methodologies identify the assets and threats to those assets. Develop, document, implement and follow the policies and procedures to protect the assets. Establish and follow risk options and responses. The threats include external, environmental, operational, financial and compliance.
  • Apply Knowledge of Service Continuity - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Service Continuity.
  • Apply Knowledge of Service Level Management - Advise or support clients (internal or external) on Systems Management Component: Service Level Management.
  • Apply SAP Basis Knowledge - Apply knowledge of SAP Basis, including the ability to: Understand the key concepts of SAP Basis for current version of SAP Understand the key business and technical drivers of response time and service levels for end users as they relate to SAP Basis Understand how SAP Basis implements across multiple hardware and software platforms Use prescribed IBM Intellectual Capital Network Use prescribed SAP Basis work products with the deployment model/engagement template
  • Develop Operations Functions & Recovery Procedures - Define and document all operation functions and all requirements for the recovery of any component. Maintain the documentation and regularly validate recoverability.
  • Implement SAP Basis Environments - Install and administer SAP R3, BW, APO, SEM, SCM, SRM, BI, XI, Netweaver, solution Manager, ECC and other SAP environments. Install SAP code packages. Install SAP middleware and bolt-ons. Set up CCMS monitoring. Apply patches and perform upgrades as needed
  • Lead Systems Management Function Improvement - Grow and improve the management functions established in support of the client's business as it reacts to changes in business or technology.
  • Manage SAP Basis Environments - Lead SAP Basis teams, Maintain SAP metrics strategy. Design and implement SAP systems. Interface with clients to gather system requirements. Interface with SAP on advanced problems through OSS, Perform SAP Healthchecks
  • Perform Plan, Implement & Custmz Sys Mgmt - Plan, implement and customize systems management functions in a client IT organization.
  • Perform Systems Administration for SAP Basis - Install and administer SAP R3, BW, APO, SEM, SCM, SRM, BI, XI, Netweaver, solution Manager, ECC and other SAP environments
  • Perform Systems Management Specialist-SAP - Perform Systems Management Specialist-SAP
  • Use Systems Management Method or Best Practices - Use a method such as ITIL, ITPM, BSP or any other system of best practices or mixture thereof, to support and configure the systems management functions.
  • Use Systems Management Tools - Use system management tools such as those from CA, HP and IBM, to support the systems management functions. Implement and configure tools for operational control, growth, planning, resiliency, and recoverability. Systems management functions are: Configuration Management, Change Management, Release Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, Availability Management, Asset Management, Service Continuity, Capacity Management, Service Level Management, and Security Management.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Performs SAP Basis support for the following products :
    • SAP ECC / Portal / Solution Manager / Content Server / Trex
    • SAP HANA / Fiori
    • Database (Oracle /db2 / mssql)
    • OS (windows / unix )
  • The following will be performed as part of SAP Basis Support:
    • Monitoring, diagnose and resolve SAP Basis related, workload and performance issues
    • SAP batch job management
    • SAP printing configuration and support
    • SAP transport request management and CTS functioning.
    • Support and monitor interfaces ( ALE, web, sftp, rfc )
    • Basic scripting for monitoring, interfaces support
    • SAP roles/authorization administration
    • Apply Basis related OSS notes, SAP kernel, add-ons, Support Packs, etc
    • Perform System copy, Client copy, DB restoration as required
    • SAP security and audit support
    • Disaster Recovery support
    • Administer SAP Marketplace functions like SAP OSS incidents, connection, licenses, key registration, system data, etc
    • Configure and manage SAP Solution Manager functions
    • Prepare Basis prerequisite setup and configuration for SAP services
    • Assessing SAP Early Watch report and implementing recommendations
    • Documentation and updating of SAP technical procedure / processes
  • Database Support:
    • Monitor, diagnose and resolve database runtime related problems
    • Monitor and perform database space management (table space, table, index extension)
    • Perform database performance parameters tuning as per SAP recommendations
    • Database runtime user id management for SAP Basis component
    • Performs R/3 System and SAP database backup according to pre-defined procedures
    • Perform R/3 System and SAP database restoration according to pre-defined procedures
  • Generate, review and report SAP performance (SAP workload analysis) and capacity planning for in-scope SAP production systems once a month or as requested by customer
  • Be available and provide support (including meetings) in client premises when requested/needed
