The Segmentation Platform teams work on providing the one-stop platform for user segmentation, audience creation and user grouping across all lines of business, whether in relation to passengers, driver partners, or merchants.
Get to know the RoleOur customers span across teams and products, including marketing, ads, rewards, driver incentives, personalization, etc. You will work closely with a cross functional team of software and data engineers on data processing and serving architectures spanning realtime microservices, streaming, as well as batch workloads.
As an engineering manager on the Segmentation Tech Family's Codex team, you would be responsible for leading a team of passionate software engineers in Singapore and Vietnam in designing, implementing, rolling out, and evangelizing the next generation of audience creation systems at Grab.
The Day-to-Day Activities:
Lead a team of engineers to design, develop, rollout, and operationalize lambda architecture for managed, near-realtime as well as batch updated segments (at scale) encompassing millions of consumers and partners across S.E.A. and Grab verticals
Together with the team, design, own, develop, and operationalize Go based microservices and user SDKs that provide low latency (P99 10ms), high throughput (50k+ peak QPS ), high uptime (99.99%) queries over user audiences / segments making tradeoffs between data cost, API latencies, and data freshness
Partner with cross functional leaders (including SegP PMs and EMs) across engineering, product and business analytics, data science (across Ads, Marketplace specifically, among others), and cybersecurity to build the platform roadmap, and set customer as well as platform focussed metrics and robust infrastructure SLAs (availability, security, testability, reliability)
Be responsible for data and application security, and partner with Grab's cyber and application security, and central SRE teams to ensure compliance with standards (around authorization, disaster recovery, etc.) and audit recommendations while balancing user experience expectations
Own and iterate on a roadmap for intelligent audience creation data and backend services architecture serving Ads, Offers, Communication, and Experimentation platforms among others. You are the ultimate owner of the successful delivery and rollout of the roadmap.
Lead sprint planning, architecture reviews, code reviews, design reviews, postmortems, and raise the bar for engineering best practices across adjacent teams and tech families
Attract and retain engineering talent, actively mentor and develop engineering talent in the team and across Grab
Keep your teams, org structure and staffing aligned with business needs and quickly pivot teams to changing needs
The Must-Haves:
A degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or have similar experience with 4+ years of engineering experience on SRE/backend technologies.
Have at least 1 year of experience in management role for teams of 3+ people
Prior experience designing, implementing, deploying, optimizing, and maintaining critical cloud infrastructure with tight SLAs, at scale, on at least one cloud (AWS/Azure preferred)
Prior experience with any of Kafka, Flink, Spark, ScyllaDB, Go, Hudi and / or managed cloud services (specifically, AWS and Azure)
Possess strong communication skills and can communicate complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences effectively. Understand product and have business sense.
Demonstrated experience in attracting and retaining key talent. Experience in mentoring peers and juniors.
